31|May 10 tips for the summer here in Kitzbühel

Be one of the “First on the Mountain

There’s nothing quite like it! Up to the Kitzbühler Horn for a breakfast on the summit with the “First on the Mountain”. Every Sunday from 8 July to 9 September 2018, it’s a very early start off up to the Kitzbüheler Horn. From 4.30 a.m. in dry weather, we take the cable car up the mountain. Standing on the summit is a fabulous experience! As is experiencing the sunrise in total, almost reverential silence. Music by the Kitzbüheler Weisenbläser provides the perfect mood during the breakfast on the mountain.

Bergbahn Kitzbühel weather information: the event takes place in almost all weathers unless thunder or heavy rain is forecast (information the previous day from 2 p.m. on: 0043 5356 6951 98). In the case of cancellation because of the weather, you can obtain a cash refund at the ticket offices for tickets already purchased, or you can keep the tickets and use them for the next available date.

Getting up early makes you hungry, of course! So just the right mountain breakfast is served on the summit, to fortify you for the subsequent hike into the valley or further over the summits of the Kitzbühel Alps.

Soaring over Kitzbühel – paragliding

Paragliding in tandem from the Hahnenkamm is an absolutely brilliant experience! You set off into the valley near the Hahnenkamm race start hut on the Hahnenkamm, and glide over the Streif racing piste in complete safety accompanied by a professional and it’s as comfortable as your living room armchair. My initial misgivings vanished in the first few minutes, and I’d fly again any time!

There’s another wild adventure in the Wildpark Aurach Wildlife Park

Wildpark Aurach Wildlife Park is a small paradise above the holiday resort of Aurach, which I’ve known since my childhood. It’s always nice to walk through the park and observe the animals. And it’s great in any weather, because fresh air always does you good! Take a leisurely stroll with your children, big or small. The petting zoo is a real highlight, of course … and the splendid display of flowers at the Branderhof farm is worth seeing every year!

So cute!

The Schwarzsee lake is so versatile!

There’s so much you can do at the Schwarzsee lake: swim, run, walk, take a boat trip, have a go at stand up paddle boarding … the Schwarzsee lake is so versatile. By bike it’s only a few minutes from the centre. Parking is also available, of course.

What I look forward to most every year is a lovely picnic by the lake. It takes no time to pack a few tasty morsels.

Enjoy your picnic at Schwarzsee.

Important! Enjoy your picnic in style – use glass rather than plastic. And take home everything you don’t eat 🙂

3 Lakes Tour by bike

This is an easy bike ride through beautiful lake scenery, which you can complete quite quickly. From Kitzbühel to the Schwarzsee lake to the Steuerberg and then on towards the Vogelsberg Weiher pond. You then continue to the Ebener Kreuz (beautiful view of the Wilder Kaiser) and the Gieringer Weiher pool. It’s about 11 km from Münichau back to the Schwarzsee and an easy ride. The tour is also suitable for an early morning or evening ride. And don’t forget your swimming things! All three lakes are moor lakes, and the Schwarzsee lake and the Gieringer Weiher pond are ideal for a refreshing dip during your bike tour.

Be sure to get involved

Enjoy a unique city tour with our Pepi Treichl. Every Tuesday from 10 a.m. Pepi takes you through our beautiful little town. With much love for the place and an engaging sense of humour, Pepi likes to share all he knows. Time permitting, Pepi – a true musician through and through – will also provide a short musical interlude. Meeting point: Kitzbühel Tourismus

Hiking is part of the deal

Hiking from the Kitzbüheler Horn to the Bichlalm is a route we hike at least once every summer. As children, this was always a fixed item on our programme for the summer holidays. First we take the Hornbahn cable car to the Alpenhaus and then head for Lämmerbühel. We follow a short section of the Karstwanderweg trail, then briefly uphill. You can soothe your feet in the Kneipp pool above the Bichlalm – so refreshing after the hike! We take the Bichlalm chairlift to head back down.

Kitz summer nights

Enjoy the summer evenings in the centre of Kitzbühel! Have a refreshing drink, meet friends, show off your new summer outfit, listen to the live bands and simply absorb the summer feeling – Kitz summer nights in the town centre are something special.

What’s happening on the streif in summer?

As you can see, I often go hiking in the mountains. And a hike on the Streif racing piste is also part of the summer programme. You can also do it even when the weather’s not so good, either on foot uphill or downhill, right next to the race piste. Depending on how fit you feel. Good shoes are essential, of course!

Saturday morning it’s off to the Gourmet Market

Every Saturday from April to November you can sample and buy regional products in the Kitzbühel Hinterstadt from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Meet up with friends and start the weekend in a relaxed style! My tip: enjoy an occasional breakfast at the Gourmet Market in the “Stadl”.

Gourmet Market: A bliss for the whole family.

We wish you a wonderful summer holiday!
